Dr Eugene Peterson on what he looks for in a sermon

Eugene Peterson was for many years James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology at Regent College. He wrote many books on spirituality and pastoring, and he is probably most well known for The Message, his translation of the Bible in the language of today. Now retired from full-time teaching, Eugene has something significant to say about preaching. It should not be about what we should be doing, but what Christ has already done- “kerygma” or proclamation.

A day off for junior

I began to try cartoon strips to communicate my thoughts after I heard a talk by Dr Calvin Chong from Singapore Bible College on the use of Web 2.0. We need to keep using creative ways to communicate God’s truth and though not all may choose this particular way, there is no harm in a bit of exploration and experimentation, as I have done here. Looks like I need to ask my friend Vee to help format the strip within the space.

Farewell to Ron Perschsky

Ron and Margery

We had a farewell lunch with Ron and Margery Perschsky at one of JCube’s Japanese restaurants. Ron Perschsky had retired from his regional position at WEC, a missionary organization. Our church had a long standing relationship with Ron, first as a guest speaker in our church services and church camps, and later as a church consultant. It was in the latter role that he helped us significantly during a crucial period in our church’s life. His recommendations were a part of what the Lord was orchestrating to bring about a transformation in the church. We were grateful for his role in helping us and again we thanked him warmly and personally for his advice . He plans to go back to his home church in LondonĀ  for a few months and then settle in Exeter in south-west England, and be at the Lord’s disposal, ready to continue serving.

Me, Ps Thomas, Mary Tham, Margery, Ron
